Ron Sirak of
Golfworld has a really good article about the
LPGA 1-in-4 rule and its impact on the tournament owners and sponsors. The
1-in-4 debate (see the article) has been going on since Lorena
Ochoa got a hefty $25,000 fine. She later exercised her option of one time exemption to avoid paying it. I think most of the fans have indicated a dislike for this rule and Ron
Sirak goes on to explain the importance of it by sighting quotes from players, tournament owners and sponsors.
Needless to say there are many supporters and opponents of this rule depending on which view you're taking. I can see how important this rule is to the owners and sponsors wanting the leaders to be in their tournament and at the same time, with so many tournaments, its pretty tiring for some of the LPGA leaders. This rule doesn't seem to apply to international tournaments tournaments which LPGA is in the process of expanding to more countries. I'm not sure why that is but that's what it is!
My question to you is: Should this rule be adapted by the PGA Tour or not. Seems like a lot of players miss more tournaments in the PGA Tour than the LPGA Tour. What do you think?
