The 1-in-4 rule debate

Ron Sirak of Golfworld has a really good article about the LPGA 1-in-4 rule and its impact on the tournament owners and sponsors. The 1-in-4 debate (see the article) has been going on since Lorena Ochoa got a hefty $25,000 fine. She later exercised her option of one time exemption to avoid paying it. I think most of the fans have indicated a dislike for this rule and Ron Sirak goes on to explain the importance of it by sighting quotes from players, tournament owners and sponsors.

Needless to say there are many supporters and opponents of this rule depending on which view you're taking. I can see how important this rule is to the owners and sponsors wanting the leaders to be in their tournament and at the same time, with so many tournaments, its pretty tiring for some of the LPGA leaders. This rule doesn't seem to apply to international tournaments tournaments which LPGA is in the process of expanding to more countries. I'm not sure why that is but that's what it is!

My question to you is: Should this rule be adapted by the PGA Tour or not. Seems like a lot of players miss more tournaments in the PGA Tour than the LPGA Tour. What do you think?

Tiger spoofing it

You could say we all have had bad days at the golf course. You might even say some of us have that a lot! I guess its part of golf. Here's Tiger having a bad day or is he?

Today is the first day of US Open 2008 and on the first hole Tiger had a double. I guess I would call that having a bad day but then he has not played in competition for a long time, for a pro. Let's hope this is just a hickup and its not the knee.

Well another PGA tour season and it starts with a big bang on The Golf Channel!! Evidently Kelly Tilgman's comments have gone off like a big bomb throughout the golf websites, blogs, all the content rich websites and some that I may not have seen! I am not going to repeat her comments here, you can read it all over the places on the net. I guess everyone has their opinion of it and I'm sure she has regretted saying it every minute of every day since she said it. But you know we all make mistakes and this was one she made and Tiger has already discarded it so maybe its time we all discarded it too and got on with the business of golf.

Classifieds

Starting another service for all you good golfers out there. Surely you have a bunch of stuff you bought and are not using anymore , for whatever reason. Well, here's your chance to let another golfer make good use of it. Put a classified ad on your favorite website for free and sell that item.
There are other classified websites out there, some even cater to golfers but for the most part that's what the website is all about, classifieds. Here at golfingtnvalley.com, we cater to golfers, true but the site is not just about classifieds. You can see what all is offered besides classifieds. Anyway, the service is now available here and its up to you to use it to your advantage.
We'll talk later.

Naked Golf Course

I suppose most of you have seen the re-construction going on on the Highlands course at Hampton Cove RTJ. A lot of work is going on there and so far most of it has been yanking out the trees, which is still going on. I am told this is part of the reshaping of the course that everyone will love once it is completed. I hope they're right because for my money, the trees didn't bother anybody, they were not even in play. They did provide some shade in the hot Summer days and maybe broke the wind some when it is blowing hard from the north in Winter. You may not agree with this and that's fine and maybe when the whole thing is completed we would all praise the decision but for now it seems they're spending a lot of money to bare the golf course. At least to me it looks like a naked golf course!

I was thinking today that a lot of people who have sent me feedback for this site have mentioned two things often. One, of course, is the pro hitting balls. It is entertaining and kind of gets you in the mood to go to the golf course and the second are the golf ball main menu. That actually was suggested to me by a friend who's in the golf Business many different ways. At first, I thought well that would be cute. then it was like, well let's see if I can make it work. I guess it does work based on the number of feedback that I have received, but please don't stop sending them!!
The maps section is another one. I have received correction suggestions by some of you and I appreciate that. I want everything to be correct on the information that is offered on golfingtnvalley.com so its very nice of all of you to be watching out for them and making sure I know about them!
Its not often that efforts are appreciated and I wanted to make sure I mentioned them here so all of you would know I appreciate it and I hope you continue to visit the site and send me your comments and feedbacks.

WHNT Scramble

I played in the WHNT Scramble tournament on Tuesday 6/5/07. It was a very nice tournament and our team came in at 10 under par but we didn't win!! However, I got closest to the pin on #4 green. I hit a 7 iron to about 3 feet. that was pretty nice but you've got to get some of those kinds of shots to bring you back to playing golf otherwise we may just give it up!!
